    It appears that only Mr. Cool has developed a means for a true DIY installation. Are there any other companies that have managed to find the means to complete the installation of the lines without a vacuum/pressure test? I would rather go with another brand on a 22 year old Lennox 4 Ton, 100K LP updraft furnace replacement, but so far everything else requires a contractor for the warranty to be valid. I live in a 1600ish sq ft modular home built in 1975, in the middle of Michigan. My furnace took a dump and I need to replace it, but I am looking into a heat pump system. Normal Winter temps hover in the 20s normally, but can get below zero for a week or two some winters. Current furnace is an 80$ Miller. I am building a mechanical room behind my house that will be 14x10x7ft ceiling and that is where I want to relocate my heating system to. Approx 18 ft from my current lp furnace location in the house. Look into a combo fuel system as being we can get pretty cold in the winter, I don't think a heat pump system alone would work. LP is around 2.40 a gallon and I go through about 1000 gallons a year most of which is between Late November and early March for a normal winter period. I have been seeing the new Daiken system and this Amana, and the BOSCH unit, And Train units. Not sure of the biggest differences between them. If I were to just go to a new LP furnace, I would be looking at a 96% over the current 80% unit installed. It was having problems keeping up in the really cold periods. Granted I need to reinsulate my walls, but that is a different animal for a different video. So out of the Bosch, Daiken, Train, Carrier, and Amana systems, which would be the most suited for me? Or should I bypass this option and go directly to ta ground source system via a Pond, or a few Geo Wells? or even a Ground loop system (depending on how much loop I would need to bury at what depth). Im in an area where the water table is a bit high so get water flowing not too far under the surface. 5-7 ft will fill with standing water. Plan is to install return ducts from the house and each bedroom back to the mechanical room, which will be somewhat in ground 3ft- 4ft deep,, while 3 to 4ft is above ground level, ofcourse using an upflow design to blow into the 2 straight link ducts under the house. Will a full geo system work in my scenario, or should I look at a Dual Fuel for the really cold times, or a ground source system foregoing the system shown in your video here. Sorry for the long inquiry, but figured most of it was info you would need to calculate the potentials. Thank.

    I want to replace my HVAC in my miami condo in miami florida. 1500 square feet. The ducts already exist and there is space on the roof for my existing HVAC. Are you saying you have a different setup currently like air to water heat pump / central chiller ?

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow 2 дня назад

      Yes but the side discharge systems are typically the quietest except it very hot climates they will ramp up to max capacity and be slightly quieter than a single stage counterpart. Where the comfort comes in is at reduced capacity / lower demands (ie under 100F). At full capacity everything is a little louder since it’s working to keep up but they’ll modulate throughout the day / temperature conditions as things change

      Price will vary from contractor to contractor I’m just saying the cost is similar to a single stage 15 seer unit. Cost to use a heat pump depends on local utility rates. We pay .12 - 14 cents in Colorado but in California people can pay .30, .40, .50 cents or more, but gas is more expensive there too

    Having installed many Goodman systems over the years, I can tell you, they're no worse or better than any other system. Goodman, and the other bargain brands DO cut corners that reduce the lifespan of their units. They put in the bare minimum compressor for the system. A Trane, will have a slightly oversized compressor, by comparison. I'm rural Tennessee, and sometimes I work for free just helping people get air, and I've put used Trane compressors in Goodman systems that are still running to this day, but never the other way around! I've been in the business 25yrs now, and I've not had to go back and replace any of the systems I've installed yet. Most of those were Goodman.

    Don't use your AC as an air cleaner. Just stop it. Stop it now. If you need to clean your air then buy a dedicated air filter. Use the standard high flow and cheap filters for your AC. Those high filtration filters are going to damage your HVAC because you'd rather burn up a 6,000 dollar AC than spend a couple of hundred dollars for a real air filtration system that's designed to do the job. Just stop it. Use the right tool for the job. Would you open your refrigerator door to try to cool your kitchen? I don't think so. So stop it, and if you see someone At Lowes or Home Depot buying a HEPA filter to use on their AC..tell them to stop it.

    • @davidrosenau3136
      @davidrosenau3136 День назад

      This is confused logic. The filter matrix density is only 1 issue. All filters that slide in a track will leak. Roughly 25 percent of the airflow by passes the filter. The likelihood of "overworking" an AC system is highly unlikely.

    • @rickhunt3183
      @rickhunt3183 День назад

      @@davidrosenau3136 no it's not. I know several people who had blower motors that were damaged I dont know where you come up with 25 % bypass from. once the blower motor produces a vacuum on the filter it's a tight fit. if you'd like to continue to use high filtration filters that's your choice. you might consider talking to someone in the HVAC service industry and see how often they find it necessary to replace a blower and what kind of filter they were using. A blower motor should last the life of the unit or beyond, but that's not the case anymore. No one can definitively say your blower burned out because of a filter, but the data sure suggests that's the case. It would be interesting to have a remote temperature sensor and a current sensor to to measure the performance characteristics of the blower. Also a counter to indicated how long the system ran to cool the area, and a log of the inside and outside temperatures. That data would reveal a lot about what is actually going on.

    A quick apples to apples comparison of the 2 ton GSZS6 (When available assuming street price will be about $3,700) vs 2 ton GSZV9 (Online price of $6,000). At 70 IDB, 67 IWB & 115 ambient outdoor temp, running at 800 CFM (per the recommended 400 CFM per ton) we get 19.7 BTUs for the side discharge vs 70 IDB , 67 IWB, 115 OAT & 820 CFM of 21.1 for a difference of 1.4 tons. Personally, I don't see the point of paying 60% more. Just upsize to a 2.5 ton and your MBh output jumps to 24.7 BTUs. Most of the components would comparable except the surface area of the cooling fins. At some point, the cost of these traditional box, variable speed heat pumps have got to come down.

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow 2 дня назад

      If your talking cooling and your ductwork can support upsizing the condenser / system then that’s fine, I would probably agree but the GSZV9 will handle the high ambient temps a little more gracefull whereas the side discharge ramps up quickly on hot days at temps above 100/105 depending on how you set it up. I personally would go for a side discharge but some people prefer the other.

    Purchased Daikin Air Handler and Heat Pump: Model #'s DZ14SA0301 and ASPT36C14 on Registration Certificates. Recently, issues with UV Light System on Air Handler -- just found out the Unit is "Goodman". Spoke with Daikin and they are telling me everything is the same on the Goodman Unit as a Daikin Unit, just the label is different. 8 Months after I purchased the system, the air handler blower died (The X-13 Blower is what they have on paper work); It was covered under warranty. Then there was debris build up on blower, had to pay $500.00 for them to come out -- take apart components and clean. Have had issues, so now I'm concerned what the long term outcome will be for this Goodman Air Handler, or according to all parties -- it is a Daikin! Looking for any input you might have on the units. Thanks.

Or change the filter more regularly, consider a filter upgrade… but it shouldn’t be a problem or get that dirty that quickly unless the filter wasn’t being changed regularly and/or you have lots of dust / dogs and pet dander etc

      Why is that? Do you have lots of issues with it? Most common issues are due to exhaust runs, and the furnace not being tilted properly for drainage

      A single stage 96% system (mandated minimum in Canada) will offer similar savings to a 96 two stage or 98% modulating. The only difference in upgrading is comfort not savings, savings is negligible between those units

    I am a commercial /industrial HVAC technician and have been in the field for 17 years. Yes the internal components of most small equipment 5 tons and under is the same. Where the manufacturer differences are the casing /coils/ and overall design. York/ Goodman/Diakin are notorious for refrigerant leaks on major components and that’s from my own field experience. I also agree the installation error makes up a huge difference on longevity and reliability of equipment. I disagree with you on the fact all equipment are built equally. Trane by far builds some of the best quality equipment up to there large boxcar (VAV) and chillers. ICP (Carrier) does a fairly good job as well.

    I like Goodman. I’m in ACL. They are in Houston so I will buy them before out of state. I have two OEM Goodman Central ducted systems from when the house was built in 1996. One died so it was replaced with a newer Seer16 variable speed Goodman. The other is still cooling and has a gas furnace. Eventually it will be replaced with a new Goodman. Reason I am researching these new heat pumps for ducted systems.

    Here is something everyone may be forgetting: When was the last time you had your HVAC ducts cleaned? I used to be a home inspector. I would lift up the vent grilles (registers) and find gypsum board dust, pieces of gypsum boards, carpet threads, dead mice, etc just under the grilles. Imagine what is in the rest of the ducts.

      We used to service the springs but had issues staffing it and ultimately had to pull out because of the distance from our hub, a little short staffed at the moment so we’re trying to focus on taking care of existing customers in the springs and aren’t servicing there at the moment. May open up in the future, I would recommend Peak Home Performance, they’ve been great from what I have heard down there

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow 7 дней назад

      4” thick filters you can use much more restrictive filters since the pleats actually allow for better airflow, so a MERV 13 is probably fine if you’d like to try it out and see how it performs. If you notice any issues like AC icing or overheating then you can step it down

      You could sell the used unit on Craigslist but that’s about it unfortunately. Once it’s used it’s hard for a contractor to resell so they normally won’t take them on trade

      Google search “(manufacturer) model number age” and a website called building center will pop up that finds it for you based on manufacturer … so if you googled “Trane serial number age” then the nomenclature charts will show up for that model that decipher its age
